Jackie Chan Releases Statement Regarding to His Recent Tweet

Jackie Chan recently tweeted about the hostage crisis happened in Philippine and his message is interpreted by netizens as an act of friendship to Filipino police. Chan wrote: "HK is a nation built by a lot of different people...don't worry! We do not hate!" Netizens are angered by Chan and criticized he is not qualified to represent Hong Kongers. A Facebook group was even created against Chan's sympathetic tweet.

Chan released a statement yesterday, explaining his tweet was written by his American assistant and it's different from his original meaning:

"First, I have to pay my deepest condolence to families of victims killed in Philippine. Maybe I didn't say it clearly, my American assistant wrote the message on Twitter for me. After it's been translated, its not completely my original meaning. I think it's a sad tragedy that Hong Kongers had been hijacked and killed during a trip in Philippine. I'm Chinese, 100% Hong Konger. I'm grieving over Hong Kongers who had lost their lives in this unfortunate incident. I pay sympathy to the families who had lost their family members. I hope injured survivors can recover soon.

I only said, I won't hate Philippines because of this tragedy. There are many Philippines working in Hong Kong. And there are Hong Kongers working in Philippine. If we hate each other, it would harm both countries.

As for whether it was the improper method the police used that caused this tragedy, of course it must be investigated. Let the professionals at this field figure it out.

If because of my incomplete thought I expressed online caused misunderstanding and dissatisfaction, I'm here to express my sincerest apology to everyone."
