Rainie Yang Wins 'Best Actress' At the 45th Golden Bell Awards

After Ariel Lin won "Best Actress" with idol drama "They Kiss Again" at the Golden Bell Awards (Taiwanese Emmy) in 2008, another idol, Rainie Yang, was crowned "Best Actress" with idol drama "Hi My Sweetheart" at yesterday's annual awards ceremony. Fellow partner in "Hi My Sweetheart" Show Luo is nominated "Best Actor," but lost to teen actor Wu Cheng Di.

Rainie and Amber Kuo are actually the judges' favorites, but judges believe Ranie had a bigger transformation compared to her usual cute, good girl image (she plays an emo loner in "Hi My Sweetheart"). As for this unexpected honor, Rainie was very nervous and excited at the same time when her name was called. She couldn't say anything at one moment, as she didn't even prepare her thank you speech. "It really is hard to win with idol dramas, hope judges can pay more attention to idol dramas in the future," she said with tears.

This year is the 10th year the 26-year-old is in the showbiz. Besides winning a Golden Bell award, she just finished touring. "I received many gifts this year!," she said. She feels very proud to win with an idol drama, but also feel it's a pity that Show didn't win. "Maybe because I wasn't good enough. We helped each other out. It's a good competition though," she sighed.

In addition, this year's "Best Actor" winner Wu Cheng Di actually won over his competitors with more than half of the votes. Judges point out Show in "Hi My Sweetheart" features his romantic side; Wu depicts realism; veteran actor Chang Chen Guang has a different performance than before; James Wen's acting is between romance and realism. In the end, Wu is picked as the winner for his fresh and burden-less performance.

Unfairness in This Year's Golden Bell Awards?

Not everyone is happy about this year's Golden Bell Awards nominations. While nominees like Show Luo, Rainie Yang, and, Chu Ge Liang are happy that they made into the competition, other people are upset for those who didn't get nominated. Autumn's Concerto, the only idol drama receiving high ratings (peaking 8.23) recently, is one of the surprises. Leads Ady An and Vanness Wu are praised for their performances in the drama but received no nomination. Other idol drama stars like Jerry Yan (Down With Love) and Sonia Sui (The Year of Happiness and Love, P.S. Man) are even voted as stars that should be nominated.

Besides idol drama stars, others feel it's unfair that some veteran actors and hosts aren't one of the nominees. Wu Nian Chen, whose great performance in "The Year of Happiness and Love" is acknowledged by viewers, is not nominated and even beaten by young actor Wu Yun Ching (4 Friends). Xiao S and Kevin Cai Kangyong's Kangxi Lai Le are out from the nomination list.

However, these stars can't just stay disappointed the whole time. "We didn't shoot Autumn's Concerto for Golden Bell Awards, it's for love!," Vanness encourages others. As the winner of "Best Variety Show Host" in 2005, Xiao S replies, "Would be happy if get nominated, it's okay if we didn't."

Xiao Xiao Bin to Compete For Golden Bell's 'Best Supporting Actor'

Five-year-old Xiao Xiao Bin is competing "Best Supporting Actor" in this year's Golden Bell Award! It's known SETTV already applied this category for him. He would compete with 58-years-old, Taiwan's most popular 'ojisan' Wu Nien Jen for this award.

Last year, Xiao Xiao Bin filmed "Autumn's Concerto" when he wasn't even five. His vivid performance earned him the title genius child star. Later, he even participated in films and hosting. When SETTV prepared their list of Golden Bell nominations, they decided to put Xiao Xiao Bin along with "AC"s Wu Kang Ren in the "Best Support Actor" category. SETTV expressed, for a five-year-old child, his performance is really too excellent, it's worth to be acknowledged the happiness he brought to everyone.

In SETTV's nomination list, besides Wu Kang Ren, Xiao Xiao Bin's competitor includes director Wu Nien Jen, who is 52 years of his senior. Wu Nian Chen played James Wen's dad in "The Year of Happiness and Love." His character's traditional and restrained personality once touched many audience like Xiao Xiao Bin did.
