Pre-TVB Anniversary 2011: Nominees' Thoughts Part 1

The annual TVB anniversary awards ceremony is coming soon and all nominees must be nervous: would they be the lucky winners this year? This week we will feature the thoughts of some nominees and let them predict who is the winner.

Tavia Yeung and Ruco Chan

This year Ruco Chan and Tavia Yeung are both nominated for TVB's 'My Favorite TV Character Award' for their roles in The Other Truth. Although Ruco has confidence in himself, but he won't be pressured. This was the first series Ruco played the lead role, he thanked Producer Amy Wong and TVB Executive Catherine Tsang for giving him the opportunity. Ruco had always been seen as Catherine's favorite, asked if he hopes Catherine will vote for him? He said: "Of course, but Catherine had always been unbiased. Even if she does vote, it won't be because of me, but will vote based on a balance of qualities from all artists."

When asked who his greatest opponent is? Ruco frankly said: "I have confidence in myself! If I had to choose, I would say Bosco Wong. In fact I believe he definitely has the power to take Best Actor, but if he can't get that award, I still hope he gets the My Favorite TV Male Character award."

As for Tavia Yeung, she expressed she never gives herself pressure. Also she participated in the awards ceremony several years now, whoever wins the awards, she will be happy for them. She said: "Especially this year, many of the candidates are my peers, from the same generation. It feels like a group of students waiting to get their report cards. I actually feel more relaxed." When speaking of her greatest opponent, Tavia laughed and said she was part of the cast of Yes Sir, Sorry Sir, so she supports Miss Koo Linda Chung. She said: "Well I really have to go back to school and talk to the principle there, but even if it sounds selfish, I still have to give myself a vote. If I win, then I'll have an explanation for myself." She also expressed if she gets the award, she will definitely cry and let everything out because that is her true nature.

Moses Chan

Moses Chan, who cheated the relationship with Miss Koo in Yes Sir Sorry Sir is also part of the nominations for My Favorite TV Male Character. He frankly said this year he doesn't have too much confidence because his role isn't worth flattering. Asked if its because his role cheated on a relationship? He said: "Actually I don't care about this. As an artist, we are used to fluctuate audiences' emotions. I don't have confidence in myself, but instead I support Linda Chung. She really was outstanding in the crying scenes. Let's see if she's lucky or not!"

Tavia Yeung Wants to be China's Evilest

Her new drama "The Rippling Blossom" is airing soon, but Tavia Yeung is filming in Mainland China now. The drama is airing during Chinese New Year, but she is not worried: "Ratings might be affected, but I'm not too worried. As long as it gets to release!"

After "The Mysteries of Love," Tavia already filmed four dramas, so she can go to Mainland now and earn more money: "This time I'm filming an ancient drama with Patrick Tam. I'm playing a villain, an evil female lead. This is my first time filming a Mainland drama. Renminbi [China's currency] here I come!"

Tavia once played a villain in "Beyond the Realm of Conscience," and this time she is playing a similar role. She said: "I want to see whether I can be eviler. Already that evil last time in Hong Kong, maybe there won't be another chance like this, haha! I want to be China's evilest!" She worried viewers would see her as a villain from now on, but after she saw Ron Ng plays a villain earlier in a Mainland drama, she understands Mainland viewers are quite reasonable on this.

First time invading the Mainland market, Tavia knows this is an important opportunity for her; she does not want to play plain roles anymore. However, she will not leave her 'home' TVB: "I'm very loyal to my company. I signed TVB forever!"

It's said she had plastic surgery on her face, she said: "If I did, I probably did it inside my mom's belly. I don't have much rumors and news. It's good that the report said I 'improved.'" She also expressed she won't purposely go find others to prove for her like Angelababy did.

Tavia Yeung Plays A Lawyer, Afraids to Have Diarrhea

Tavia Yeung, Louise Lee, and Ruco Chan attended to the costume fitting of new series "Truth" (tentative, 真相). It's Tavia's first time playing a lawyer and she feels very excited to wear real lawyer's gown. She also expressed lately she played teacher and police etc, and just missing doctor. She fulfilled many of her mom's dreams: "I'm not qualified. Even I study my whole life, I might not able to wear lawyer's gown."

Scripts for lawyers are very long and Tavia said she feels the stress she has when filming "Beyond the Realm of Conscience": "I'm afraid I will be too stressful and have diarrhea." In the series, she would develop romance with Kenneth Ma, Raymond Wong, and Rico Chan in different stories.

As for Louise Lee, who kept wiping her eyes during the event yesterday, she expressed she was wiping her eyes because make-up remover went into her eyes. This time she plays a character who gets beat up by husband all the time: "I don't understand how come some women won't leave even if they're being hit. Women shouldn't tolerate this. I want to take reference from some cases. (Would ask Amigo Chui?) It's different, they just quarrel. But those who are being tortured should leave."

In addition, this is Ruco's first time having a heavy role after he returned to TVB. This time being a good lawyer, he frankly said he has some pressure. Fortunately there are good actors like Louis Yuen and Lee Shing Cheung, plus Tavia is guaranteed to have good ratings, so he has more confidence in this series.

Tavia Yeung Wants 'Mysteries of Love' to Have a Sequel

TVB series "Mysteries of Love" is always accused of copying "Galileo" and other Japanese dramas, even netizens got together and criticize, but its ratings has been  getting higher and higher. Tavia is satisfied with the ratings, and hoping to film a sequel. Asked whether they're afraid re-running "Galileo" will let viewers discover more similar scenes, Raymond Lam said: "Actually last year when we were filming it, many actors already know these types of comparison would appear, so everyone spent lots of work on his/her character, after viewers watch it they would know the difference."

In addition, asked whether Raymond gave Virginia Lok a birthday gift, he said: "Actually I never gave a gift every year, it's always I'm present but not the gift. (Still sensitive about giving gifts?) No, need to think about what gift to give. Saying this in an old-fashioned way, doing well in my concert is the best birthday gift, because Ms. Lok and Ng Yu put many effort to my concert."

Raymond Lam and Tavia Yeung attended to the promotion event for "Mysteries of Love." As for the criticism of copying Japanese drama, Raymond joked it would be good if he can break into the Japanese market with it, hoping to have fans from Japan in the future. He also said that he checked the Japanese website and found out that no one was talking about it. He said several years ago Korea broadcast Hong Kong martial arts series. Tavia Yeung Holds Umbrella For Her Assistant

Source: Sudden Weekly
Translated by: KAY @ kays-entertainment.blogspot.com
Tavia Yeung is in many happy occasions lately. Earlier her older sister Griselda Yeung opened a fashion store in Tsim Sha Tsui. Her series "Mysteries of Love" is having good ratings, with a highest peak at 36 points. As Charmaine Sheh filming less TV series, causing her popularity to decline, Tavia absolutely has a chance to replace Charmaine as TVB's number 1 fa-dan. Recently, Tavia was filming for new series "不速之約" in North Point. Weather that night was getting cold suddenly. Tavia, who was shivering because she didn't wear enough clothes, had a restroom urgency. She and her assistant walked 5 minutes to a nearby gas station to use the restroom. During the walk, she held the umbrella the whole time and also let her assistant to go use the restroom first. It's rare to see a star who doesn't have any arrogance.

Raymond Lam and Tavia Yeung Support New Series Didn't Plagiarize

TVB new series "Mysteries of Love" is criticized by netizens for copying Japanese drama "Galileo." But "Mysteries of Love"s rating wasn't affected and its first episode had average ratings of 32 points. Yesterday the series held a celebration event. Raymond Lam and Tavia stressed they didn't copy anything. Raymond supported the plot is original. Tavia believed romance lines are richer than the original.

Raymond said: "Drama genres are always those few. Our plot is original. Before filming, people already said we copied, most importantly, every character has a different way of portraying, viewers like it." Watched the Japanese original version? "No, won't watch original or edited versions in general, otherwise the acting will have others' shadow. We have to create our own, including 'A Step Into The Past' earlier, now producers don't encourage us to watch, because the story is different."

Tavia said when they started filming people already said they copied. Although she never watch the Japanese version, but she doesn't feel anything was copied, plus the romance lines between the leads in "Mysteries of Love" are richer. Afraid being boycott by netizens? She said: "No, people already said it's similar on the first day."

Netizens praise "Lai Fei" (Tavia Yeung)'s evil performance

Villains in "Beyond the Realm of Conscience" are widely praised by many. First it was "The Empress Dowager" aka "Kuo Tai Haw" (Susan Tse), now it is Tavia Yeung's "Lai Fei".

Others also pitied "Kam Ling" is bullied so it's reasonable for her to become evil.

Facebook users also created groups for characters from "BTROC". In addition, they created groups to grieve dead characters from the series, including "Kow Tai Haw" and "Tsui Ma Ma". However, Moses' pet turtle "Tong Lin Zi" is the most popular; more than 1700 people joined the group.

Tavia Yeung is criticized: "Give me time to become evil!"

"Beyond The Realm of Conscience" & "Born Rich" have average ratings of 34 points and 32 points at their first broadcasts two nights ago. They're the series that received the highest ratings in six years for their first episodes. However netizens felt "BTROC" is boring with no new ideas at all, also criticized harshly the series is a combination of "War & Beauty", "Rosy Business", and "Jewel in the Palace".

One of the netizens, '黑幕重重', sadly expressed, "Counterfeit, it embarrassed the whole Hong Kong, can't watch anymore! Very ugly, how can it sell?" Other netizens purposely compared "BTROC" to "JITP", pointed out Charmine Sheh is Seo Jang Geum, Tavia Yeung is Lee Yeon-saeng and Choi Geum-young , Kevin Cheng is Min Jung-ho, etc. As for the storyline, Charmine Sheh's Lau San Ho's father is demoted, mother is killed at a young age. They scolded the storyline is just like "JITP". Tavia Yeung, whose villain role is considered to be a hot shot for TV Queen, is already criticized harshly for its part in the first five minutes by netizens, saying her acting is not enough, voice is weakly soft, also her heavy make-up is quite scary, feeling she is rather victimized than supported.

Netizen 'k8964' left a message on the TVB website, expressing, "Her role as a villain is praised to be good, but it's highly rated, is it a little 'loving her becomes harming her' ?" Tavia Yeung said she looks at the ratings more respectably than awards, also hoping sincerely the audience to wait patiently, "I become evil gradually. Yesterday is only the beginning. Please give me more time to become evil."

As for "BTROC" arouse such feedbacks, producer Mui Siu-ching said will accept criticism, but she denied copying, " 'JITP' is talking about meals, ours is about the four departments in the imperial household bureau. It will mainly talk about the making of jewelries and sewing. We already tried hard to avoid the topic of meals. People already said I'm copying ideas when I filmed 'Forensic Heroes', it's unavoidable. Anyways, it will be improved continuously.'' She also supported greatly Tavia is doing a good job, "This is not the most evil scene, she will start to become evil later. I myself really appreciate the performance of actors."
