2011 TVB 44th Anniversary Awards

Another year! This year's anniversary awards will be held NEXT MONDAY (December 5, 2011) and YES, I will be updating the results immediately like old times! Stay tuned :D

But for now, why don't we make predictions on the winners? Basically EVERYONE from EVERY DRAMA is nominated, AS ALWAYS. But obviously, we have popular favorites so let's look into that.

Best Actor

Possibly in the top 5 nomination: Bosco Wong (Lives of Omission, Wayne Lai (Forensic Heroes 3), Steven Ma (The Life and Times of a Sentinel)

Sorry to 2-time TV king Wayne Lai, but this year's competition is between "Law Ba" and "Laughing Gor". Very tough to say...but I'm for Kevin.

Best Actress
Myolie Wu (The Curse of the Royal Harem) vs. Fala Chen (Lives of Omission)

Possibly in the top 5 nomination: Maggie Cheung (Forensic Heroes 3), Jessica Hsuan (Curse of the Royal Harem), Liza Wang (Home Troopers)

Everyone just keeps congratulating Myolie Wu right now. But tbh I seriously don't think she did well enough in this drama to crown TV queen. She is improved, but winning with this drama? Hmm...

Linda Chung's "Miss Koo" was definitely one of the characters of the year. I didn't watch the series but the general rule is, if the media is for you, you are most likely to get the award. Then if Fala didn't win TV Queen, she gets this "pork award".

Ben Wong (Lives of Omission) vs. Sam Lee (Ghetto Justice)

Possibly in the top 5 nomination: Cheung Kwok Keung (The Life and Times of a Sentinel), Patrick Tang (7 Days in Life)

Everyone is basically up for "Lak Geun Gor" right now. The possible opponent I can think of is Sam Lee.

Best Supporting Actress
Sharon Chan (Ghetto Justice) vs. Nancy Wu (Forensic Heroes 3)

Possibly in the top 5 nomination: Elena Kong (Lives of Omission), Aimee Chan (The Other Truth), Gigi Wong (Curse of the Royal Harem

Sharon Chan did so well in "Ghetto Justice" that I think she would definitely win something this year! Nancy didn't have a big part in FH3 but she did a good job still. Impressed.

Most Improved Actor
MC Jin vs. King Kong vs. Jazz Lam

I feel like TVB would favor MC Jin a little. King Kong and Jazz Lam were also last year's nominees for the same category. Jazz definitely has lots of potentials.

Most Improved Actress
Cilla Lok vs. Mandy Wong

Cilla received lots of attention after she starred in "Yes Sir, Sorry Sir." But personally I think Mandy performs a little better, as she can play different roles while Cilla is generally restricted as a young teen.

'Love You' Cast Celebrates Good Ratings With Popcorn

Rainie Yang and Joseph Chang's new drama "Love You" (醉後決定愛上你) is once again number 1 on the Sunday's idol drama rating chart, receiving an average rating of 2.62. The cast including both leads and Tiffany Hsu held a celebration event for yesterday's good rating. Usually people celebrate good ratings with good foods, but only popcorn for this drama?

In fact, popcorn is a quite important element in Episode 2 of this new drama. In that episode, Rainie is upset over her boyfriend and needs to calm down by eating popcorn. However, during official filming, the crew actually stuffed toilet paper inside the popcorn bag underneath real popcorn to save money. They decided to eat lots of real popcorn at the celebration event yesterday to pay back the actors.

Playing a good looking and rich architectural designer, Joseph is now many girls' dream husband and many netizens have been confessing their love to him. Even partner in the drama Rainie expressed the same thought.

"If there is a good looking husband like him, I'm willing to marry him even without giving me one million!*"

*In the drama, Joseph promises to give Rainie one million if she agrees to be his fake wife for 3 months.

'Lives of Omission' Trailer; Bosco Wong Has More Scenes than Michael Tse?

Although Michael Tse is see as the main lead in new drama "Lives of Omission," but looking at a recent trailer of the drama, looks like Bosco Wong is having more scenes.

Upcoming drama "Lives of Omission" is supposed to be the spin-off of legendary undercover "Laughing Gor" from 2009 drama"E.U.". Michael Tse, who plays the role, returns as a police officer in the new drama and will develop a romantic relationship with boss Fala Chen.

Additional characters including Bosco Wong and Kate Tsui. From a leak trailer online, it appears Bosco's role as an undercover has a more interesting storyline which might captivate the audience. In order to support girlfriend (Kate Tsui) to study law, he becomes part of the gang to earn more money. But when his girlfriend becomes a lawyer, she looks down on him and breaks up with him, making him turn into a villain.

Disclosed by the drama crew, Michael and Bosco both see this drama as an important project. Michael wants to reach another peak of his career as "Laughing" and Bosco even hopes to win big at the anniversary awards.

'Grace Under Fire' Finale Receives 31 Complaints

There is always something viewers can complain about.

TVB aired the finale of "Grace Under Fire" on Sunday to compete against ATV's 30th Hong Kong Film Awards. Average rating of the finale is 32 points, peaking 34 points. However, the Broadcast Authority received 28 complaints regarding to the drama, saying the bloody scenes are unpleasant to watch. TVB also received 3 related complaints from viewers. They complained scenes like when Dominic Lam is being hit on the head and people burning to death are too violent.

As for rating of the annual Hong Kong Film Awards, this year it was aired by ATV and average rating is 7 points, peaking 11 points. The spots when "Best Actor" and "Best Film" were announced received the highest rating.

However, ATV disagreed with the results announced by TVB. They said the newest number will be announced next week.

TVB Cancels Controversial Bus Hostage Scene

TVB is listening to the public this time.

New drama "Flying Tigers" was filming a bus hostage scene earlier and the scene is accused of resembling the real bus hostage crisis that happened in Manila last year, where 8 Hong Kong residents died and some others were injured.

Despite of controversy, the crew still filmed the scene anyway. However, perhaps fear of further troubles, TVB decided to cancel this scene and a new story is being shoot. Instead of a bus hostage, a boat was used. Actors are relieved, including lead Jessica Hsuan.

"The whole thing was a tragedy. This new scene should be more comfortable to watch. I think it's better not to have it."

Patrick Tang, who was filming the scene with Jessica, expressed he was upset when he arrived at the filming set earlier. Now the setting is changed, everyone should feel more comfortable about it.

TVB's 'Only You' Finale Stuns Viewers

TVB drama "Only You" is not a dramatic drama in general, only telling stories about romantic relationships in life. However, towards the end of the finale aired on Saturday, a dramatic car accident happened.

After they finished shooting wedding photos, KaKa (Elaine Yiu) and King (Lokyi Lai) went to a nearby bus stop to take a bus. While waiting, an out-of-control car drove by a drug-abused driver hit them to the wall. The dying couple was holding each others' hands tightly before the car exploded.

Many viewers are surprised by this stunning ending of the young couple. They expressed their unsatisfactory online, bashing TVB should fire its screenwriters and demanding a new ending. They believe there should be better ways to express the message of "cherish."

Producer Wong Sum Wai expressed they hope to express the "cherish" theme from this scene; life is unpredictable and happiness is not guaranteed.

The unfortunate couple in the drama Elaine and Lokyi both think it's a meaningful ending. Although it's not perfect, but at least they are still together in the other world.

"There are things you cannot predict," Elaine wrote on her Weibo. "It's to bring out a message of cherishing the present! It's a very meaning and poignant ending."

The Manila Bus Hostage Crisis

Although it's been more than half of a year since the Manila Bus Hostage Crisis happened, but it's still a pain to most Hong Kong residents.

A dismissed Philippine National Police Officer hijacked a Hong Kong tour bus and took the Hong Kong tourists as hostages in an attempt to resume his previous position as a police officer. Eight hostages were dead in the end, and some of the other hostages are now facing long term injuries from the incident.

TVB's new drama "Flying Tigers"/"Special Duties Unit" (tentative name) starring Joe Ma and Jessica Hsuan was filming a bus hostage scene yesterday, very similar to the Manila hostage crisis. The scene is about Kenneth Ma, who plays the villain, takes over a tour bus and demands the police to release his wife (JJ Jia). He goes crazy when he knows his injured wife dies.

The scene is similar to the hostage crisis happened in Manila, Philippines last year. Not only it's also a bus hostage crisis, it's also similar in which the hostage taker is emotion-driven by the fact his close family member is held by the police force.

Actors filming the scene was not so willing to film this scene. Jessica Hsuan is worried this part would rub salt into the wound of victims from the real hostage crisis. Kenneth Ma, whose role resembles the real hostage taker, expressed he has no control and can only follow the script.

As one of the hostages in the scene, Christine Kuo believes the screenwriter just wants to show the message the bad can't win the good and didn't purposely try to relate it to the unfortunate incident. Her boyfriend in the drama Oscar Leung thinks similar stories have been seen in other movies; it's just now everyone is being more sensitive to it.

TVB Not Competiting in the 'Asia Rainbow TV Awards'

Nicknamed the "Asian Emmy's," the first annual Asia Rainbow TV Awards will be held on March 22, 2011. Television programmes from 13 countries and districts will be competing 24 awards on the award ceremony.

The nomination list is out and only programmes of RTHK and ATV will be representing Hong Kong. Hong Kong's popular TV station TVB didn't submit any programme to compete. As for this, TVB expressed time is too tight and they had a hard time picking out their dramas; therefore, they decided not to participate.

Korean drama "Bad Guy" received 6 nominations, including Best Actor and Best Actress in a Modern Drama. Taiwan's "Hi My Sweetheart" is the only Taiwan representative. ATV's Miss Asia 2009" and "Asian Million Star" are competing in the category of entertainment programme. Pakho Chau and Ella Koon from Hong Kong are competing Best Actor and Actress in a Comedy with other actors, including Taiwan's Show Luo and Rainie Yang.

Niki Chow Gets Teary Easily

Niki Chow was shooting drama <我的如意狼君> in the studio yesterday. She was shooting a scene where she leaves home and her family searches for her. In the end, she and Ching Ho Wai, who plays her mother, hugs and cries together.

Before official shooting, Niki was putting herself into the character and her eyes were teary already; even the director told her to hold onto the tears! When it was time for the official shoot, her tears dropped immediately and the scene was done smoothly.

During interviews, Niki expressed she needs to cry a lot when filming this drama: "The plot is very touching. My tears would come out when I was reading it on my own. Then I cry during filming. There's another challenge for filming this drama, that is I have many lines, the longest is 7 pages long!"

Michael Tse Leads New Drama as 'Laughing'

The return of the legendary character, Laughing!

The character 'Laughing Gor' in "E.U" (2009) is one of the most popular characters in TVB dramas. Not only it created a wave of following 'Laughing Gor,' it also brought fame to its performer Michael Tse. TVB even filmed a spin-off movie "Turning Point" just for the character and the movie was released the same year, rocking the summer box office.

Whether it sees the character still has potential, TVB to film a new drama "Lives of Omission" (<潛行狙擊>,) featuring 'Laughing' once again; but this time it would be 'Laughing Sir.' Actors from this upcoming drama attended to a costume fitting yesterday, including Michael, Fala Chen, Bosco Wong, and Kate Tsui. Michael disclosed 'Laughing' will return as a C.I.B. officer and develop a relationship with boss Fala, who actually plays his girlfriend in the 'Laughing' movie.

The death of 'Laughing' in "E.U." was huge when that episode was aired. Netizens were so upset that they even created Facebook groups to mourn their favorite character. Many of them even requested TVB to bring 'Laughing' back to life. This time playing 'Laughing' again, Michael expressed he doesn't know whether he has to "die" again.

"Unexpected events would happen in the drama. Only 6-7 episodes of scripts are finished. So far I don't know whether I need to die or not."

The other romance line is between Bosco and Kate. Bosco plays a cripple gangster who joined the gang for Kate. The two will have lots of intimate bed scenes. Bosco couldn't avoid being asked whether he is afraid Myolie Wu would be jealous, but he denied.

"Not afraid. It's just filming. I won't be embarrassed filming these scenes with Kate," he said. "I never see her as a girl."

Ron Ng & Kate Tsui Kiss on the Streets

Ron Ng and Kate Tsui were photographed kissing passionately in public last night!

But they were only doing it for upcoming drama "Forensic Heroes 3." Kissing in the public for drama last night, Kate frankly admitted she was a little embarrassed.

"I played Ron's girlfriend several times already. But these kind of scenes were filmed in the studio before, not like this time on the streets, especially during rush hour. So it's quite embarrassing."

The Miss Chinese International gave her "first time" to filming.

Although she is the pretty goddess in many people's hearts, but Christine Kuo is actually a shy girl who never make first moves in a relationship. She won't express her feelings even when she likes someone, only keeping it a crush.

'Fun With Liza & Gods' Drama Costume Fitting

The success of variety show "Fun With Liza & Gods" brought new job opportunities to hosts Liza Wang, Louis Yuen, Johnson Lee, and Wong Cho Lam. After holding a concert last year, now they moved on to their own television series--<荃加福祿壽探案>. [rough translation for now: Fun With Liza & Gods Detective Cases]

The four hosts attended to the drama's costume fitting yesterday. The drama tells a detective story happened in the 60s, so the drama's fashion style is quite retro. The three "Gods" said they group as one this time and challenge other TV Kings to win big in the Anniversary Awards.

Wayne Lai Confident in His 'Chok Look'

Even TV King Wayne Lai likes to be "chok."

TVB's new game show <華麗明星賽> (All Star Glam Exam) was taping its first episode yesterday and hosts Grasshopper invited Wayne Lai, Anita Yuen, Christine Ng, and Michael Fitzereld Wong as guests. For the warm-up games, guests have to pose along the music being played in front of 8 different cameras. TV King Wayne was being very "chok" at the game. Christine went wild, catwalking and taking off her jacket to do funny faces. It was a little messy for Anita, where she had to fix her shirt during the game because of big movements.

Seemed to enjoy posing "chok looks," Wayne said he was very into it. But asked whether he can be more "chok" than Raymond Lam, he humbly said: "I think we are about the same. I'm an idol now!"

*Again, what is 'chok'? It comes from the word 'choking' and now becomes a word to describe people posing with a cool, cute, handsome, etc expressions, trying to capture fans' hearts and look good on-screen. (There's a pretty nice video on YouTube that probably explains even better XD)

Raymond Lam is Mad At Photos Leak

Raymond Lam and Charmaine Sheh's upcoming drama <花花世界花家姐> (rough translation: Colorful World of Sister Fa) has not been released yet, however, photos taken during filming were already leaked online.

The drama's release date is not confirmed but lately a fan has been posting unreleased photos of the drama online, which would have been posted on the drama's official page later on. These photos include Raymond in a jungle dress and Raymond self-snapping with Charmaine.

Drama photos would usually release by the external affairs department two weeks before the drama premiers. TVB is currently in an investigation to figure out who leaks these photos. It would take legal actions if personal profit is involved. However, the situation is different if Raymond's fans are using them just to promote their idol's drama.

Raymond himself is mad at the photo leak, because his surprises for audiences are exposed now. His partner Charmaine is also disappointed and hopes the company would take this incident seriously.

Yoyo Mung Likes Being Called 'Mrs. Cheng'

TVB drama "Only You" to premier on February 21 and it held the first promotion yesterday. A drama about marriage and love, actors from the drama specially appeared as 11 couples and walked as newlyweds in wedding outfits.

Leads Kevin Cheng and Yoyo Mung were the last to appear, and everyone joked about Yoyo's relationship with boyfriend Ekin Cheng. Since Kevin's last name is also 'Cheng,' other actors kept shouting "Mrs. Cheng!" to Yoyo, and Yoyo didn't mind and kept smiling.

Male Private Part Exposed in '7 Days in Life'?

TVB drama "7 Days in Life" might have ended this Friday, but netizens still cannot forget that one scene in episode 15.

The drama begins with the kidnap of a young boy, who is the son of Wonderful Harbour Hotel's CEO. One of the kidnappers, portrayed by Patrick Tang, is quarantined in the hotel with the boy as one of the hotel guests is diagnosed with H1N1.

Later in the drama, head of the kidnappers, portrayed by Joseph Lee Kwok Keung, goes into the hotel and tries to bring the boy out. In episode 15, Lee is seen stepping out from the shower with only a towel around the hips. He gets mad when he sees the boy's hands are untied and he tries to hit him. Tang's helper Mimi Lo tries to protect the boy away from Lee, and at one point, she takes away Lee's towel, leaving Lee only a small face towel to cover his private part.

Netizens suspects Lee actually exposed his private part in that scene. However, Lee denied, promising he absolutely did not expose his private part to the audiences.

"I was wearing underwear and shorts," he said. "But I'm glad people believe I was being naked in that scene. That means it was well done."

The tiny shadow on the wall is why netizens are discussing the incident so enthusiastically. In fact, it was only the shadow of Lee's finger when he was holding the towel. Definitely a "beautiful misunderstanding."

'Sunny Happiness' Debuts As #1 On the Rating Chart

"Sunny Happiness" shines some light to Sunday's idol dramas rating competition!

Taiwanese idol dramas aired on Sundays haven't been doing well since last summer. Recent ratings have been quite low, usually just around 1. The premier of "Sunny Happiness" last night changed the pattern. The drama debuted with a sunny 1.67 rating and topped the rating chart as winner.

Mike He's "Calling For Love" received low ratings earlier and therefore he was once regarded as the "poison" to ratings. He is quite relieved after he knew his new drama with Janine Chang did fairly well. Yesterday he and Janine attended a celebration promotion at a motel and skillfully opened a champagne, spraying liquid to everywhere. He disclosed he specially learned that at home.

"I've been practicing at home for a long time," the actor said. "Now I can control how much and how high I want it to be."

Mike He & Janine Chang's Kissing Scene--Tongue Involved?

CTV's back to the Sunday's idol drama competition with new drama "Sunny Happiness" starring Mike He and Janine Chang.

Bed scenes seem normal to appear in idol dramas now, and leads from "Sunny Happiness" had a quite intimate bed scene in the drama. Thinking back the scene now, Mike expressed they were both super nervous.

"In the beginning, we were embarrassed. In order to ease the tension, I purposely called her 'my senior,' and said 'I welcome your advice' to the camera. Feels like filming a category III movie."

Mike was even suspected of sticking his tongue out when he kissed Janine (picture). However, the actor denied, and in contrast, complained his partner for giving him a hard time when filming the bed scene.

"According to the plot, she has to kick me off the bed. But I didn't know she's doing it for real. I got kicked on my stomach!"

As for Mike's "special" habit, Janine said she knows how to "protect" herself.

"We had a deal. Whoever sticks the tongue out, then the other person can bite on it."

Niki Chow Wants to Be Female Raymond Lam

Niki Chow and Raymond Wong attended to the blessing ceremony of their drama <我的如意狼君>. First time acting in a pre-modern drama, Niki feels fresh and already sees producer Lee Tim Sing as her lucky man. Everyone wishes Niki finds her ideal Mr. Right soon, and she said: "I can't wait myself. Let's see if I can find one after I finish filming this drama."

Niki's contract with BMA is over, asked whether she considers signing TVB as her management company, she said: "I can think about it. I want to be the female version of Raymond Lam, developing my career in the music, movie, and TV industry. It's great!"
