'Grace Under Fire' Finale Receives 31 Complaints

There is always something viewers can complain about.

TVB aired the finale of "Grace Under Fire" on Sunday to compete against ATV's 30th Hong Kong Film Awards. Average rating of the finale is 32 points, peaking 34 points. However, the Broadcast Authority received 28 complaints regarding to the drama, saying the bloody scenes are unpleasant to watch. TVB also received 3 related complaints from viewers. They complained scenes like when Dominic Lam is being hit on the head and people burning to death are too violent.

As for rating of the annual Hong Kong Film Awards, this year it was aired by ATV and average rating is 7 points, peaking 11 points. The spots when "Best Actor" and "Best Film" were announced received the highest rating.

However, ATV disagreed with the results announced by TVB. They said the newest number will be announced next week.

'Fei Fan Gor' Makes ATV Has 0pt Rating

"Fei Fan Gor" (Extraordinary Brother) Evergreen Mak Cheung Ching had another extraordinary work done.

The episode of TVB's "My 2010" with Mak as the guest, which was aired on Sunday night, received an average rating of 17 points. ATV aired "i-Sports@tv" to go against TVB's program, but failed to meet expectation and experienced getting 0 point rating again.

Other TVB programs did quite well last week in terms of ratings. "The Rippling Blossom" stayed at 31 points and sitcom "Show Me the Happy" also stayed at 24 points. New drama "Only You" was premiered last week and scored an average rating of 28 points, peaking 31 points.

TVB's new game show "All Star Glam Exam" hosted by Grasshoppers was premiered on Sunday and did a good job already, receiving an average rating of 27 points.

'Love Buffet' Finally #1 on Ratings Chart

The number 1 spot of Sunday's Taiwanese idol drama finally changed.

TTV/SETTV's Sundays idol dramas have been dominating the number 1 spot the past year. Although rating numbers have been declining, but their dramas remain at the top of the chart. Current TTV/SETTV idol drama "Channel-X" starring Joe Cheng and Amber Kuo has not been doing well, scoring the highest rating of 1.50 only. FTV/GTV's "Love Buffet" enters the rating battle and has been trying to attract the audience with its Japanese-style romantic story.

The drama finally won over "Channel-X" yesterday, possibly thanks to Calvin Chen's bathing scene. Its average rating was 1.04, winning just a little over "Channel-X" (1.02). Although it is not a great number compared to back then, it is still a good news to fans of "Love Buffet."

Leads of "Love Buffet" Aaron Yan and Calvin Chen are very happy to hear their drama is number 1 on the ratings chart. Now the drama is ratings winner, fans did not forget Calvin once made a promise that if his drama is ratings winner, he would dine with his first love and let everyone take photos of them. However, now Calvin is definitely disappointing his fans.

"That only applies to if the drama is national ratings winner!," he said.

'Show Me the Happy' Rating Drops Again

Is Christmas weekend the one to blame for bad ratings?

Rating of TVB sitcom "Show Me the Happy" dropped again compared to the previous 23 points, receiving only 21 points last week. The series debuts with an average 24 points rating in the first week and once peak 25 points in the second week. However, perhaps due to the holiday season, ratings have be declining.

It is rumored ratings dropped because Bernice Liu, who is one of the leads in the sitcom, has many negative news recently. Male lead of the sitcom Roger Kwok supports the actress, saying both things are not related.

"There are many things that affect ratings, like exams and long vacations," says the actor.

In addition, TVB series "Twilight Investigation" ended last Friday and its finale received an average rating of 27 points. Five comments are received regarding to the series, praising leads Wong He and Linda Chung is a fresh new pair and the plot has new ideas. But the Broadcast Authority received 1 complaint, saying the human vs. ghost battle is bad for children to watch.

TVB Series Faces Drop in Ratings

The holiday season starts to affect television ratings.

TVB's "Show Me the Happy," "Twilight Investigation," and "Links to Temptation" all have a drop in average ratings. New sitcom "Show Me the Happy" dropped 2 points compared to last week, receiving only 23 points this week. "Twilight Investigation" dropped 1 point this week (29 points). Steven Ma and Fala Chen's new series "Links to Temptation" premiered last week and received only a 27 points rating. Broadcast Authority also received 4 complaints for "Links to Temptation" and they aimed at Fala Chen's character in the series. Her greediness, sacrificing body, and pole dancing are complained.

The only TVB program that has a raise in rating is "Fun With Liza and Gods Concert," which received an average rating of 27 points (increased 5 points).

TVB's Anniversary Gala Receives 6 Complaints

TVB's 43rd Anniversary Gala was aired last Friday and received a good average rating of 35 points. Its humorous skit "Super Beauty Salon" scored a high rating of 38 points (about 2.4 million viewers). However, TVB and Broadcast Authority received six complaints regarding to the show. Three of them noted TVB should not ask Eric Tsang and Chan to be one of the hosts. The other two complaints noted female artistes were too sexily dressed. Broadcast Authority received one complaint, noting Tsang's taping on people's faces and spinning artistes around are inappropriate.

In addition, TVB's two anniversary series "No Regrets" and "Gun Metal Grey" received a slightly better ratings, respectively 34 and 31 points. As for "Gun Metal Grey" is less promoted compared to other anniversary series, TVB's External Affairs Director Tsang Sing Ming stressed promotion events for the series are being held in different periods according to the planned schedule. High executive Virginia Lok and producer Leung Kar Shu will personally contact Felix Wong, who accused at TVB recently for not being serious enough with "Gun Metal Grey," to explain and will also invite him to attend to this year's Anniversary Awards Ceremony.
